New York Yankees take out full-page ad to honor Mets’ David Wright, who will retire Sunday

Subway Series rivals no more.

The New York Yankees paid tribute to longtime Mets third basemen David Wright on Friday with a full-page ad in the New York Post.

“The New York Yankees congratulate David Wright on a distinguished career,” read the ad, which is in Yankee colors and prominently displays the Yankees’ NY logo.

Wright, who is retiring from baseball on Sunday, was activated by the Mets on Tuesday for the team’s final homestand. It’s the first time the Mets captain has been on the active roster since May 27, 2016.

Wright, who has spinal stenosis, has had multiple surgeries in an attempt to return to the Mets’ lineup, and he will get that chance on Saturday night. He will be in the starting lineup against the Miami Marlins for the sold-out game.
